“O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.” – Psalm 107:1
Alexander Whyte was a famous preacher from Scotland who was known to always be upbeat and positive. The story is told of one Sunday morning in which he and his congregation encountered such horrible weather that only a handful of people were able to attend Church that day. Snow and ice was everywhere and a steady wind cut through those who ventured out like a knife. As Rev. Whyte made his way to the pulpit to open the service with prayer, the few faithful members who were in attendance wondered if their Reverend would be able to keep his positive, upbeat attitude under the current conditions. Then Rev. Whyte stepped up to the pulpit and began his prayer with these words, “We thank thee, oh Lord that it is not always like it is today.” Perhaps you are facing some difficult circumstances right now. Maybe you are having trouble feeling thankful. Just remember that there is a time and season for everything. Ecclesiastes 3:1 Give thanks with a grateful heart. We have so much to be thankful for. If you are having trouble feeling thankful today, begin to thank the Lord that trouble doesn’t last always…that every day is not like today. “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” – I Thessalonians 5:18
“The Pilgrims made seven times more graves than huts. No Americans have been more impoverished than these who, nevertheless, set aside a day of thanksgiving.” – H. U. Westermayer
“God gave you a gift of 86,400 seconds today. Have you used one to say, ‘Thank you?”’ – William Ward
