One afternoon, as I was sitting on the side of the interstate after my car broke down with all of the kids in the car it finally hit me. There are very few things that I am in control of in my life and that’s a hard pill to swallow for someone who battles “control freak syndrome”. Think about it for just a minute….what are you really in control of other than your own actions? You can try to control your health….eat the right things, exercise etc. but if it’s your time to go then it’s just your time to go. You can save all of your money for retirement and control your finances to some degree but it only takes one major accident and the doctor bills alone could wipe you out…or one stock market crash and it’s gone. I finally realized that when I trust Jesus completely with my life and let go of control, my worries, my struggles, my plans…then and only then will I be in His perfect will and I can be free to be who He has called me to be. I began praising Him unconditionally, not because of what He had done for me but simply because of who He is. There is unbelievable power and freedom in that praise.
Today, as easy as it sounds and hard as it may be to actually do, just let go. Let go of trying to control your own life and turn everything over to Jesus. It’s much easier said than done but when you’re tempted to dwell on the situation, just begin to praise Him. JUST PRAISE HIM. In Psalm 148, over and over again we hear the phrase “Praise Him”. Let your praises to the Almighty God be heard from high and sing and praise Him from the inside out. As you sing praises, let Him consume you from the inside out and take complete control of your life.
