We live in an age where it seems many in the Church are retreating. Retreating on the issue of homosexuality. Retreating on the issue of abortion. Retreating on the issue of sexual purity. Retreating on the authority and inerrancy of God’s Word. But God has placed His church in this day and in this hour to be a beacon, a city on a hill (Matthew 5:14-15). Every time I watch this scene from “The Patriot” I am reminded of an old Hinsons song I heard as a child entitled “Soldier In The Army”. Here are some of the words from that song…..
“I’ve enlisted as a soldier in this mighty army band, marchin’ out to battle with my weapon in my hand. Heard the captain give the orders, they don’t include retreat. We’re marchin’ over a boarder to a land of no defeat…
Now tell me, who’s gonna fight, who’s givin’ in? Who’s gonna lose, who is gonna win? Will you cry “I surrender” when the enemy you meet, or be a soldier in the army, standin’ on his feet?
Well upon this rock I’ll build my church and let ol’ satan try. The gates of hell shall not prevail, here’s the reason why. Jesus raised the flag on Calvary, made sweet victory complete. Since we’re made more than conquerors, then satan’s more than beat!”
In Matthew 16:18, when Jesus said, “upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” This scripture was used in the context of an offensive scripture, not a defensive one. This is not a time to retreat – We must push forward. The future of our families and our country depends on it.
