“Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ..” – Titus 2:13
The early Church had a common greeting. It wasn’t hello, or good day, or even shalom. It was maranatha. Maranatha is an Aramaic word that means “The Lord is coming”. That greeting served as their daily encouragement and reminder. It was their hope and inspiration. It was the anchor for their souls.
What about you? How do you respond when you hear “The Lord is coming”? Your response is an indication of the condition of your heart. Do you feel fear and dread or joy and hope? Are you ready for the Lord’s return?
“Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them. “ – Luke 12:37
